Don't worry about knowing all the bones just yet

Good news, everyone!

It seems that somehow we got a day ahead of Ms. Koo's anatomy class.  What does this mean for you?

Well, we won't start learning the names of bones until Friday.  So...

  1. Seniors, you don't have to worry about knowing the axial skeleton yet.
  2. Juniors and sophomores, you will still have an assignment tomorrow, but it will be something different.  I just haven't decided yet.  I'll try to make it something educationally fun.  Your homework is still as described in the last blog: the Lucy Story.
That is all.

Friday, October 10, 2014

Bone Stuff

In class, we covered:

  1. Types of bone
  2. Microscopic structure of bone
  3. Bone markings
  4. How bones develop
  5. How bones change
I will not be in class on Tuesday.  I will be on the senior retreat.  Students who are staying: you have a lot of bones to start learning.  That's your assignment for class.  Take a look at the slides.  I want you to get through at least the axial skeleton and as much of the appendicular skeleton as you can.  Flashcards are good and also this website: Anatomy Arcade.  You Tuesday homework (due Friday) is a reflection blog over the following: Lucy's Story.

Seniors, although the Lucy's Story assignment is not due for you, you are still responsible for learning the names of the bones that you miss.

Homework:
Sketch and label the major bones of the human body.  How do you know if they are major?  They are on slides (see below).  Remember more detail is better for you.  This is due on Tuesday.  It is due even for the seniors.

Unit 3 Exam

We completed the Unit 3 Exam today.

We also started the first bit of the skeletal system.

  1. Components
  2. Functions
F Block: I misspoke when mentioning components of the skeletal system.  Cartilage is a type of connective tissue that is slightly less hard than bone and forms structures in some areas of the body.  Ligaments are the connections between bones.  Connections of muscle to bones are called tendons and will be dealt with in a later chapter.

Homework:
Read Chapter 5.  Answer the first 10 short answer questions at the end.
